“It’s not unusual, is it? The fights, the things Taam used to say about you – I always thought those were over the line, by the way – or the times you slept with other people—”The adrenaline turned the world into background. Jainan was moving after him before he realised he was and slammed his hand on the switch. White static flooded around his arm to fill the doorway again. “I didn't!”Aren drew his arm away from the door with a half-smile. And Jainan understood the kind of game they were playing, and that his only choice was in how he was going to lose. He shut his eyes and said it anyway. “I never slept with anyone else.”“My mistake,” Aren said, holding up a hand in front of him, as if Jainan was being aggressive. Jainan took a step back. “I just thought, you know. That prostitute.”Jainan had to suppress a sudden surge of nausea. That was Taam. He swallowed it and stopped himself replying, because there was no point picking over it. There was no winning with Aren.
siadea asked:Come to think of it, I don't think I've even heard Kiem's dad NAMED. Who's he?Kiem’s other parent was Prince Alke who was more like him in personality, though it kind of manifested differently. They died when Kiem was pretty young! It took Tegnar (whose personal name is Sarvi) a long time to get over it. Not sure she entirely has.
